One-Single-Artwork-Show #5: Iris Musolf

The Artwork:
Iris Musolf | Wanderer In Haze, 2015, 190 x 130 cm Make-Up, Mascara, Nail Polish, Lacquer on Paper

"What societal symptoms can manifest in inflated surfaces in the broadest sense? What depth lies within an air-filled shell, in the depiction of a model? How must I alter the optical presence so that the resonance changes as well?

My obsession lies with banal advertising and disposable items that tell a story of a world where optimized surfaces, superficial fun, and colorful images dominate. I attribute to them, with the help of other materials, a kind of archaeological permanence that simultaneously seems to dissolve. Shimmering symbols of lightness, joy, and also superficial consumption thus become tangible objects of thought.

The beautified body of the model gives way to a pure layer of make-up that resembles tattered undead. Behind this lies the question of how, through material displacement, social and psychological qualities, as well as human abysses and deformities, become visible." (Iris Musolf)
