The exhibition "Moment and Duration" presents a focused selection of works from the artistic output of Josef Hegenbarth. It showcases the themes, perspectives, and distinctive drawing style that characterize his life's work. On one hand, the terms moment and duration represent poles between the fleeting nature of the instant and the enduring and existential substance. On the other hand, Hegenbarth's finest works reveal a fusion of moment and eternity, the unique and peculiar with the transindividual, movement with stillness, and transience with permanence. The choice of themes and motifs is also shaped by this tension, with works related to the Bible and the Nibelungenlied referencing long-standing artistic traditions, while everyday observations and the present intertwine and stand in contrast.
To expand and diversify the theme, the exhibition will also feature additional artistic positions, including works by artists who share a biographical and generational connection to Josef Hegenbarth. Furthermore, a bridge will be drawn to works by contemporary artists who engage with similar thematic concerns.
