Plastische Malerei
The works of Matthias Lutzeyer, Donald Martiny, and Pino Pinelli can be described as plastic painting, as each artist consistently identifies as a painter, creating artworks with pigment and binding agents.
Pino Pinelli, born in 1938 in Sicily, is the most important and internationally recognized founder of Pittura Analitica, known for his strict monochromatic painting. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1986.
Donald Martiny, born in 1953 in New York, aims to liberate painting from rectangular formats, exploring and maximizing its potential. His goal is to create works that engage in a dialogue with the viewer and the surrounding space, including the architecture.
Matthias Lutzeyer, born in 1959 in Stuttgart, explores the boundaries and transitions between the inherent formal tendencies of materials and artistic interventions using black pigments bound in linseed oil in a multitude of ways. The result is works that mysteriously inhabit a zone between nature and artifice, oscillating between semi-arbitrary and consciously presented expressions.
