Enoc Perez - Abstract Architecture
Nuremberg. Galerie Fluegel-Roncak will open the exhibition "Enoc Perez – Abstract Architecture" on Friday, September 30, 2016. The exhibition will showcase recent prints focused on architecture. It will run until November 12, 2016.
Enoc Perez was born in 1967 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is a contemporary artist and author. As the son of an art critic, Perez was exposed to art, art history, and museums from an early age. He began painting lessons at the age of eight. In 1986, Perez moved to New York to study painting at the Pratt Institute, later earning his Master of Fine Arts degree from Hunter College. He currently lives and works in New York.
Perez is particularly known for his unique interest in architecture, which he expresses through multifaceted paintings of modernist buildings. These include the Hearst Tower in New York, the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, and the Normandie Hotel in San Juan.
With his new photo collages, Perez turns his attention to the theme of social media. He incorporates images from Instagram, ranging from selfies to more professional shots, and adds hand-painted geometric shapes that distort the images while simultaneously transforming them into something new. Just a few years ago, Perez expanded his oeuvre to include sculptures.
