Joseph Loughborough - Resurfaced
The return of something from the past. Perhaps it’s the memory of a faded dream, an old photograph found, the forgotten face of a relative, or a long-suppressed fear. The illumination of the hidden? In this collection of works, Loughborough explores these themes. Forms, images, and patterns emerge beneath several layers of charcoal, revealed through the process of gestural erasure.
Loughborough's works arise from an experimental process in which he sometimes erases and destroys the scene he has created, only to search for more interesting forms within the erased remnants. Some of his pieces appear illustrative, while others are more connected to abstract elements. He is capable of controlling both, offering the viewer a mix of chaos and the visualization of original forms.
