Ausstellung „Damien Hirst– LOVE“
Nuremberg. Galerie Fluegel-Roncak will showcase works from Damien Hirst's LOVE Gold Portfolio from April 15 to May 31, 2016. This collection consists of 14 different butterfly/heart prints in various color combinations. Hirst aims to counter the "horror in the world" with the theme of love, as he emphasizes.
The exhibition will also feature works from the series "Psalm." These pieces evoke both stained glass windows and mandalas. The absence of figurative representations makes it difficult to interpret or associate them with a specific religion. With this series, Hirst provokes thought and encourages engagement with the topic of religion.
Damien Hirst was born in 1965 in Bristol, UK, and celebrated his 50th birthday on June 7, 2015. He works as a sculptor, painter, conceptual artist, and curator of individual exhibitions, and is the most well-known representative of the Young British Artists group, which also includes Tracey Emin. From 1986 to 1989, he studied Fine Arts at Goldsmiths College in London and organized the Freeze exhibition in London's Docklands with fellow students in 1988, which is considered the birth of the Young British Artists phenomenon. For Hirst, it marked the beginning of a dream career.
Hirst is particularly known for provocative sculptures that address themes of death, religion, life, and consumer culture. Among his most famous works is "For the Love of God," a platinum cast of a human skull encrusted with diamonds, as well as several animal bodies preserved in formaldehyde.
The Turner Prize winner is often referred to as one of the richest living artists. He opened his own museum in London to make his private art collection, which includes around 2,000 pieces, accessible to the public.
