About Ashkan Sahihi:
At the age of seven, Ashkan Sahihi, who was born in Tehran, moved to Germany. In 1987, he relocated to New York, where he worked as a photographer specializing in portraits. He contributed to leading magazines such as the New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Vogue, Spiegel, Geo, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin. Since the late 1990s, his artistic photographs have been exhibited in numerous shows, including at the Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York, MoMa PS1 in New York, the Akademie der Künste in Berlin, and MARCO in Rome.
In 2013, Ashkan Sahihi moved to Berlin. Captivated by the city, he began his project DIE BERLINERIN, born out of a desire to capture the city's dynamics and its rapid changes.
Starting in September 2013, he photographed 375 women, having established 35 categories based on origin, age, profession, and background.
The book DIE BERLINERIN by ASHKAN SAHIHI, featuring 375 portraits, will be published in October 2015 by DISTANZ Verlag (848 pages).
The complete series will be on display from October 2015 to January 2016 at the municipal GALERIE IM KÖRNERPARK in Berlin Neukölln.
