Wieland Payer - Abseits vom Getöse der Welt

Viewers of Wieland Payer's works encounter banks of fog between towering mountains, gazing far across the land and into the metaphysical. The atmospheric density and artistic perfection of Payer's pastels and prints evoke the art of German Romanticism, referencing Carl Blechen and Caspar David Friedrich. The Kunstsammlungen Jena presents him in their exhibition "The Infinite in the Finite - Romanticism and the Present," in correspondence with works by Philipp Otto Runge and Bertel Thorvaldsen. Payer stands up to this comparison and bridges the past with the present and beyond: the artist is a passionate consumer of fictional narratives by Stanislaw Lem, the Strugatsky brothers, and Christian Kracht, whose themes he transposes into his works.

Wieland Payer (*1981) studied at the Kunsthochschule Burg Giebichenstein Halle (Diploma, 2008), the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome (Erasmus scholarship), and the Royal College of Art in London (Master's, 2011). Works by the young artist are already part of prestigious public collections, including the Neue Sächsische Galerie Chemnitz, the Angermuseum Erfurt, the Klingspor Museum Offenbach, and the Royal College.

We warmly invite you and your friends to the opening with the artist on Saturday, October 17, in Erfurt. Prof. Dr. Kai Uwe Schierz from the Angermuseum Erfurt will speak.
