Joseph Loughborough - Soloausstellung

A provocative gaze seeps from the remnants of the fire, with which Loughborough captures his desperate and often hopelessly lost spirits like demons on rough paper. It is the Conditio Humana, paired with an understanding of absurdity akin to that of Camus or Kierkegaard, from which stories emerge, clutched pallidly by the protagonists. The immanent aspiration spreads through suffocating spaces that they expand but can never overcome. Like an emotion whose climax they chase, yet can only approach.

Pairs and groups reach out in turn, searching for the antidote to free them from their existence. The latent hope expresses itself in every frozen movement, waiting for redemption in the unattainable distance. Despite the silence, beyond the fine technique, the fervent expressionism, and the absence of sterility in this nihilism, it is difficult to capture what their eyes seek. From bathing in their own existence to the failure of that search for a goal or a metaphysical meaning of being, all doubts about ourselves are encapsulated and partly masked with pleasure. And even though they believe themselves freed from such sins by the mantle of secularity, a desire remains: to rise from the inferno, to crawl back through purgatory, and finally, liberated from their passion, to be able to enjoy.
