Musik aus Gägelow

Exhibition from the series ›Berliner Dialog‹
Horst Hussel · Works on Paper
In the Cabinet: Paintings by Albert Wigand (1890–1978)

The exhibition in the BERLINER DIALOG series showcases two generations of artists. At the center are the works of artist Horst Hussel. In addition to a few preserved early pieces, works from the years 1995 to 2015 from the collection of Horst Hussel will be on display, most of which have never been publicly exhibited before. The few among them that have appeared in other exhibitions are placed in a new context through this current selection, which, despite the absence of early works, offers a comprehensive overview.

In the cabinet, a selection of paintings by Albrecht Wigand (1890-1978) will be presented, mostly from private collections.

Both artists share the musicality referenced in the title of the exhibition, serving as a connecting and poetic force that is reflected not least in their love for literature and their own writings—whether letters or completed works. They are united by a visual thinking that, in Hussel's case, tends toward the paradoxical from the very beginning, while Wigand—at least until his time in Dösen—tells stories of reality without exaggeration. (from the working booklet, Kathleen Krenzlin, 2015)

Opening on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at 8 PM with Birgitta Milde, director of the Carlfriedrich Claus Archive in Chemnitz, and Kathleen Krenzlin, director of Galerie Parterre Berlin and the Kunstsammlung Pankow. A working booklet IX of Galerie Parterre Berlin will be published in conjunction with the exhibition, featuring a conversation between Horst Hussel and Friedrich Dieckmann, an introduction by Kathleen Krenzlin, as well as contributions from Anke Paula Böttcher, Klaus Ferentschik, Horst Hussel, Brigitta Milde, and Lothar Trolle. (96 pages, numerous illustrations)

Kollwitz – The Biography
LECTURE, FILM, READING
The adopted Berliner Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) lived for more than 50 years in Prenzlauer Berg. Her life reflects the fractures, utopias, promises, and catastrophes of the 19th and 20th centuries and is a dramatic piece of art and history. Yury and Sonya Winterberg will read— for the first time in Berlin—from their newly published biography, which has uncovered a wealth of new sources and presents Kollwitz in a less familiar light. "The first comprehensive biography of Käthe Kollwitz." (FAZ)
