Axel Anklam & Jan Muche - Skulptur und Malerei

Opening with the artists on Saturday, August 29 at 9 PM
Performance: Klinke auf Chinch

The journey of discovery begins and ends in space. In their exploration of this concept, the artists develop various abstract representations.

Jan Muche connects lines in the pictorial space of his paintings to create architectural, dark-hued compositions.

Axel Anklam works with the effects of light and the atmosphere of the surrounding space—depending on the viewer's position, his sculptures made from transparent or opaque materials change their expression. At the same time, they are infused with inner harmony. Using Pythagoras' studies of consonance, Anklam makes them resonate: he translates pitches into lengths using a monochord and incorporates these into his constructions.

Both artists step away from the principles of complete abstraction through the titles of their works, which establish a connection to the reality of our world and thus to the viewer. They allow the viewer to use this access to explore the various layers and parallel worlds within the offered art space.

Axel Anklam was born in 1971. He completed his initial training as a metal artist at the age of twenty-two, earning the title of master craftsman. He then worked as a restorer for the Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten and received a scholarship for a study stay at the European Centre for Cultural Heritage in Venice.
In 1998, he began studying sculpture at the Kunsthochschule Burg Giebichenstein, moved to Tony Cragg's class at the UdK in Berlin in 2002, and completed his studies in 2004. In 2010, he took on a guest professorship at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart.
In 2013, he participated in the Biennale di Venezia. That same year, he won two significant art commissions from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Anklam's works can be seen in museums, prestigious collections, and public spaces. The artist lives and works in Berlin and Bad Freienwalde.
