Galerie Gilla Lörcher is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Berlin-based artist HENRY ANNO, opening on April 9, 2015, in the temporary gallery space at Linienstraße 141.

Henry Anno's work revolves around materiality, tactility, and texture. The artist has a penchant for materials that are not typically found in art supply stores, favoring those that strongly relate to the location of their creation, production, or use, as well as their history.

For the works on display here, for instance, the artist used fiberglass sheeting from a former U.S. radar base from the 1960s. The thick, glossy black layer of bitumen paint applied to the surface reveals hints of the underlying material in certain areas. Depending on the light, the texture of the surface changes, transforming the entire artwork into an object that is perceived anew each time.

The works of Henry Anno, born in Berlin in 1959, have been exhibited in numerous galleries and project spaces, including Sebastian Fath Galerie (Mannheim), Zeno X Gallery (Antwerp), SQ & CQ Gallery (Berlin), milk Gallery (Istanbul), Vintage Gallery (Cologne), Gegenwart / Berger Straße 6 (Frankfurt a.M.), and Galerie Gilla Lörcher (Berlin).
