Nuremberg, May 22, 2015. GALERIE FLUEGEL-RONCAK, specializing in Pop Art and contemporary art, opened the exhibition "Stories of the Future" featuring works by Heiner Meyer on Friday, April 17, 2015. The artist is present.
Due to its great success, the exhibition has been extended until June 30, 2015. It showcases oil paintings, mixed media works on paper, and sculptures.
Heiner Meyer is a Pop Art painter and sculptor who lives and works in Bielefeld. Meyer was born in Bielefeld in 1953.
He developed an early interest in art and painting, holding his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Münster by the age of 19. In 1973 and 1974, he spent time in London and Cadaqués, where he worked as an assistant to Salvador Dalí. He studied Fine Arts at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig and received a teaching position there in 1983. During this time, he also set up his first studio in Bielefeld.
His works often feature contrasting elements. He combines various techniques such as painting and photography, as well as different main motifs. Through their themes, colors, and high contrast, Meyer's works evoke the look of striking advertisements. Recurring motifs include elements from the world of casinos and gambling, luxury items like cars, diamonds, and perfumes, along with advertising slogans. Meyer often combines these with portraits of Hollywood stars or models.
His sculptures, such as the "Botox Box" and Disney figures, also belong to the genre of Pop Art. Meyer's works are included in public and private collections worldwide.
Tommy Hilfiger, a prominent collector of American Pop Art, acquired several works by Meyer in 2014. One sculpture even appeared on the cover of the September 2014 issue of Architectural Digest USA.
