THE EXHIBITION SHOWCASES WORKS FROM 1999-2014.

EXHIBITION from January 28 - April 12, 2015

KATHARINA WORRING moved in 2008 from a garage in the city to a large studio in the Trier harbor area. While the new environment is not devoid of people, it is dominated by structures: roadways, railway tracks, loading and construction cranes, warehouses; in the distance, a chain of hills, freight trains passing by the studio windows. The view is not particularly spectacular, let alone unique, but it is suitable for developing a new perspective and working method.

The human figure, which had been at the center of the artist's work for many years, disappeared into the depths of the color spaces. The vertical, which — in Mondrian's terminology — delineates the human form in the painting, lost its dominance. Following the previously often strict architectural compositions, new works emerged that are characterized by a horizontal format. Far from naturalism and the reproduction of reality, this remains an integral part of her paintings.

Katharina Worring states that at the beginning of her work, there is never the idea of a concrete image; rather, she embarks on a search for it while painting, keeping her thought processes open until the end. New works arise from previous paintings, which flow into the present as memories, forming derivations and creating series and groups of works that relate to one another.

BORN in Karlsruhe and raised in Heidelberg, Katharina Worring studied painting at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin (now UdK) and graduated in 1985 as a master student under Prof. Dietmar Lemcke.

She was a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, went to Montepulciano, Italy, with a scholarship from the foundation, and lived in the USA from 1986 to 1988 with a scholarship from the Berlin Senate. During her second stay in the USA from 1990 to 1992, she was a guest lecturer in painting at the University of Miami. After her return, the artist lived and worked in Bornheim and Cologne until 2000. In 2011, she received (together with Valerie Buchow) the 2nd prize in the open competition for the artistic design of the new elementary school in Trier, Tarforst. Since 2010, she has been on the board, and since 2014, she has been the chairwoman of the Society for Visual Arts Trier e.V. In 2012, Katharina Worring participated in the International Artists' Meeting, Pirosmani IV, in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Katharina Worring has lived and worked in Trier since 2000.
