The New Yorker

AVone - THE NEW YORKER @ 30works

During the Christmas season, 30works is treating itself and all friends of the gallery to a wonderful gift by presenting the first solo exhibition of AVone in Europe, featuring selected works by the American Pop Art artist.

In the United States, he is one of the most prominent representatives of contemporary Pop Art and enjoys the status of an exceptional artist: Anthony Vasquez, known as AVone.

What began with illegal tags has evolved into an impressive career that has established AVone as a MoMA resident and a chronicler of the Big Apple. His multi-layered surfaces, which appear patinated, sometimes torn, and sometimes stained, are enriched with stencils or screen prints of iconic structures like the Flat Iron Building, the World Trade Center, and the Brooklyn Bridge. His intricate, complex, and extremely detail-oriented works address the decay and reconstruction of New York. He employs elements from graffiti and screen printing, merging stencils with tags, collages, painting, and tape art, remixing his pieces to create new impressions and narratives. The harmonious and engaging quality of this material and thematic clash is thanks to a nearly poetic visual language that artfully blends his fragments of architecture, fabric, and color.

30works is proud to host AVone's first solo exhibition in Europe, aptly titled "The New Yorker" in reference to his hometown. The tribute to this exceptional artist will be delivered by Gérard Goodrow, former director of Art Cologne, on the opening night.
