Alex Katz - Landscapes and Portraits

Nuremberg, May 20, 2014. Galerie Fluegel-Roncak, specializing in contemporary art and Pop Art, will open the exhibition "Alex Katz – Landscapes and Portraits" on Friday, October 10, 2014, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The exhibition will run until December 20, 2014. It will feature paintings and original graphics from Alex Katz's recent creative period, including his characteristic studies and large-format paintings of flowers, as well as his portraits.

Alex Katz was born on July 24, 1927, in Brooklyn/New York and is considered one of the most important living representatives of American contemporary art and Pop Art. His works can be found in all major museums around the world, such as the Albertina in Vienna and the MOMA in New York.

He developed his style in the 1950s, heavily influenced by flatness and clear lines, as a counterpoint to the prevailing abstract expressionism. Katz focuses on the surface, bringing women's bodies and architecture to the canvas with a constant flattening of various pictorial elements.

Alex Katz will celebrate his 87th birthday on July 24, 2014.

GALERIE FLUEGEL-RONCAK, located in Nuremberg, focuses on high-quality originals of Pop Art by artists such as Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Keith Haring, Mr. Brainwash, BAMBI, XooooX, Roy Lichtenstein, Julian Opie, Alex Katz, and Mel Ramos. Regular exhibitions take place at the centrally located venue at Obere Wörthstrasse 12. Participation in international fairs rounds out the program.
