Zeichnung der Gegenwart
Frank Badur, Hans Baschang, Joachim Böttcher, Jens Elgner, Horst Hussel, Jürgen Köhler, Rolf Lindemann, Pia Linz, Nanne Meyer, Malte Spohr, Sam Szembek
Exhibition opening at Galerie Parterre, Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 8 PM
Speakers at the opening: Kathleen Krenzlin, curator of the exhibition, director of Galerie Parterre, and Dr. Michael Lailach, Art Library of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation
The exhibition "Drawing of the Present" brings together distinctive positions in contemporary drawing in a lively and correspondingly unexpected and unconventional manner. What unites all the positions is their focus on the free and consensual engagement with the means, possibilities, and limitations of the medium, showcasing works on paper. Curator Kathleen Krenzlin has purposefully united high-caliber artists—most of whom live and work in Berlin—with very different attitudes and perspectives. The exhibition features artists who exclusively draw alongside those for whom drawing constitutes a significant part of their overall work. It seeks to explore the individual origins of specific drawings and to include the direct lineage from figure, landscape, or other visible drawing prompts, as well as a conceptual framework that expresses itself through line, which does not primarily pursue mimetic intentions.
An accompanying publication, the IV. Working Notebook of Galerie Parterre Berlin, will feature introductory texts by Kathleen Krenzlin and Michael Lailach, contributions on Sam Szembek, Hans Baschang, and Rolf Lindemann by Inga Kondeyne, Lothar Romain, and Jens Semrau, current artist interviews with all other participants, biographies, and literature references.
The exhibition will be complemented by a program of events featuring Andreas Schalhorn, Annelie Lütgens, Eugen Blume, Manfred Zoller, Bettina Munk, Friedrich Dieckmann, Horst Hussel, among others.
