Caroline Streck

A balcony railing, a partially lowered roller shutter in front of a window with a plastic flower box—isolated objects from our everyday world—are transformed by Caroline Streck (*1986 in Kempen) into compositions on canvas. Often, the painting takes on a 1:1 scale of the object being depicted. The spatiality is minimized, and the focus is on the texture and structure of the flat forms. These are images—painted images, but somehow also objects. The artist highlights both the illusory nature of painting and the connection of her works to the real world of things.

In the exhibition "oberflach" at Kunstraum-Unten in the Bochum subway station Schauspielhaus, the artist from Saarbrücken presents her conceptual approach to painting from April 11 to May 23, 2014, featuring a selection of large-format paintings as well as meticulously crafted works on paper.
