Thitz - Metropolis of Tomorrow - Malerei
“Bags and acrylic on canvas,” is how Thitz describes the material structure of his paintings. Vivid, tangible, immediate testimonies of a world brimming with vitality. “If you really want to paint big cities, you can’t depict an imagined city; instead, you must try to paint the experience as you feel it, with all the sounds, noise, dust, and smells. In a second of city life, there is an infinite amount of information – that’s the city I mean, those are my inner images,” Thitz once asserted.
Now, Thitz is designing an urban utopia: the city of tomorrow. It’s as lively as ever, but now the air seems cleaner, the noise level more moderate, and the threat of a color ambush by wild ruffians around the next brightly colored corner has diminished. Instead of hypertrophied representations of the real existing urban chaos, Thitz creates counter-proposals. Urban utopias are emerging, visions of a joyful life.
