Michiko Nakatani Souzou no yoroi / Rüstung aus der Vorstellung Installationen, Skulptur und Zeichnungen
Opening with the artist on Friday, May 16 at 7 PM
Nakatani's installations, sculptures, and drawings are as subtle as they are powerful. Her pencil drawings fill large wall spaces with intricate floral patterns that seem to vibrate. Negative reliefs, pressed into blocks of plaster, framed in color and cast in resin, depict figures that follow the viewer's gaze—and birds that appear to be flying after them.
Her paper works explore themes of both isolation and security, reflecting the individual's place within the whole, the person in nature, and amidst the elements.
Michiko Nakatani (*1981 in Tokyo) studied sculpture at Tama Art University in Tokyo and from 2006 at HfBK Dresden under Prof. Martin Honert, where she graduated in 2010. After a stay in Japan, she returned to Dresden in 2012 for a master's program and is currently working again with Martin Honert.
