From One to Another – Objects and Configurations An Exhibition by Stéphanie Mohnhaupt and Barbara Müller at kunstraum t27

In February, Kunstverein Neukölln continues its exhibition series focused on artistic collaboration. Following the Hildegard Project (December 2013), where 23 visual artists created a joint presentation, the focus now shifts to a more traditional duo configuration.

What changes in life when things are rearranged? Often, it is the unpredictable and tormenting moments that also turn out to be the most exciting and pleasurable when something breaks down. Relationships fluctuate or transform, perspectives shift, and one steps into something without knowing where it will lead. The experience remains initially external. Power and control slip away.

Such a process served as the starting point for this exhibition.

For some time now, Stéphanie Mohnhaupt and Barbara Müller have been meeting in the studio. Initially, the motivation was to develop workshops, which were to be shaped significantly by the tension of interactions.

There will also be opportunities for friction between the artists at kunstraum t27. In a work-in-progress situation, they will collaboratively develop a piece throughout the duration of the exhibition.

In response to this unpredictability, meticulous, time-consuming drawings and documents of seemingly haphazard “arrangements” of materials and objects will be on display. Such throws, object arrangements, and impressions of leftover materials, sedimentations, connectors, strings, snippets, and remnants of paint will shift from the periphery to the center.

Although the artists do not create joint works, traces of impulses arising from their duo dynamics can be found in the independently created images and objects.

Despite coming from different backgrounds, they share an affinity for process, trusting in the significance and impact of time.

One emerges from the other, but it can also abruptly shift from inner to outer images, eventually reconnecting with what came before.
