Witches' Sabbath @ 30works
Witches – sought after, hunted, burned. They bring misfortune, create chaos, and inspire obsession – even today, right among us! A group of particularly powerful and well-known witches will soon gather in the cathedral city, specifically at the 30works Gallery. On February 8th, the exhibition "Witches' Sabbath" will open, featuring the work of the Berlin artist duo Various & Gould. They have portrayed witches of our time – individuals who are vilified for critically engaging with the status quo of politics, society, and the world. Their exhibition offers hope, as these witches refuse to be discouraged. They live. They advocate. They all serve as role models.
This includes the young Pakistani Malala Yousafzai, who was nearly killed by a Taliban gunman for standing up for her right to education. She is featured in the now-exhibited 13-part portrait series, alongside Nadezhda Tolokonnikova from Pussy Riot, whistleblower Edward Snowden, activist Anne Wizorek, transgender director Lana Wachowski, and Yoko Ono. Visitors are invited to play with fire in the exhibition – and not just in a metaphorical sense! In addition to the witch series, the exhibition will also showcase the "Holy Helpers": ten life-sized images of modern saints in the tradition of Christian saint depictions.
