"Eckart Hahn's works exude a mysterious calm and serenity, despite their complex and elusive backgrounds. Nothing in them seems random or arbitrary. It is a meticulously composed visual world, fully mastered by the artist in every aspect. Based on a high level of craftsmanship, the motifs are presented with utmost seriousness and precision. The artist is a virtuoso in depicting textures, combined with a subtle handling of light that brings a remarkable shine to the dull and rather sober qualities of acrylic paint." Marc Wellmann
"People, objects, animals, and landscapes are formed from plastic bags, paper, or wax. They burst into flames, change colors, or shift states of matter. These are aggressive images that, while not displaying aggression itself, make the viewer acutely aware of its consequences. The background of the representations is almost always a monochromatic, empty stage space, leaving the artist ambiguous about where these actions are situated and why they occur. Through the material alienation of all living things, the representations become still lifes." Claudia Emmert
Eckart Hahn was born in 1971 in Freiburg/Breisgau. In 2007, we showcased his works for the first time in our gallery. Over the past years, he has exhibited in numerous museums and art institutions across Europe and North America. Alongside his demanding painting, he now presents technically accomplished objects, installations, photographs, and media forms.
