ASPHALT – Assaf Hameiri
The okazi gallery, located in the Lichtenberg Kaskelkiez, presents selected works by Assaf Hameiri in its current exhibition "Asphalt." The backdrop of rugged landscapes near Ostkreuz frames the entire experience, making it a worthwhile exploration for both city aficionados and newcomers alike. For three years now, the gallery has showcased contemporary works by international artists.
Assaf Hameiri, an artist from Israel, studied painting in Basel and at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Dresden. During his studies, he exhibited his works multiple times and has been active as an artist in Berlin and Israel across various disciplines. He directed film and theater productions, including at P-14, Volksbühne, and with his self-founded artist group "ZAK."
Hameiri invites viewers to engage with his concrete idea of vision, presenting a progressive interpretation of the tangible. He serves as both brother and master in the art of blurring and subsequent clarity. The artist poses questions about precise observation and feeling, responding by lifting the city from the image to rediscover it in an abstracted state of being. The act of seeing brought to the image elevates the realities of our urban landscapes to poetic objects, opening up a conceptual space that extends from the self to the things around us, allowing time to reflect on the relationship between events and the self.
