Aljoscha “Living Architectures” – Objectives, Drawings, Paintings

As part of the collaboration between Henn Galerie and Beck & Eggeling, a nearly three-month solo exhibition will showcase the mysterious and graceful works of Aljoscha. Born in 1974 as Aleksey Alekseevich Potupin in Glukhov, Ukraine, the artist has created an astonishing body of work over the past twelve years, including objects, drawings, watercolors, paintings, and most recently, photographs. The exhibition offers a glimpse into the thought processes and aesthetics of a young artist inspired by insights from bio- and genetic technology—the so-called life sciences. He is fascinated by the microcosm of intricate matter, and from this intellectual material and unique perspective, he creates art objects that are difficult to compare with those of other artists: conceptual, extremely delicate, puristic sculptures made from acrylic paint, where he translates his impressive drawing talent into three dimensions.

For his artistic vision, Aljoscha has coined the term "Bioism." In a statement about the idea behind his art, he writes:
“bioism or biofuturism represents my attempt of creating new living forms and the new aesthetics of the future organic life. bioism for me is the way to develop art objects which itself express the new forms of vital activity. bioism is my effort to produce art, based on vitality and complexity: during the elaboration of each piece I try to enclose in it as much movement, breathing and multiplicity as possible. Each piece of my art I consider as a living being.” (www.aljoscha.org/bioism)
In addition to his current ambition to work on a “new aesthetics” that represents the vitality and complexity of future living organisms, the desire to work with organic materials remains, for now, a utopia.
