Ego Identity
Contemporary art has a unique ability to captivate viewers. This is largely due to its emancipation from a purely representational function. Today, it serves more than ever as an expression of the individual perspectives and ideas of an artist's personality.
Andy Cross (New York), Tony Franz (Dresden), Jens Schubert (Leipzig), and Jan Vormann (Berlin) are the participants in this year's group exhibition.
Through painting, graphics, and drawing to object and installation art, they present four contrasting media approaches that reveal an understanding of their own realities. These realities are shaped by the societal, political, and cultural influences within which the artists operate. The extent to which these influences can be discerned, the impact of our own ego on interpretation, and the repercussions of this engagement will be explored in the exhibition Ego Identity.
Ego Identity is a complementary exhibition to Ostrale 013. In its seventh year, the theme is: "We Cross the Rubicon." The international exhibition of contemporary art has been held annually at Ostragehege Dresden since 2007.
