The vividly expressive paintings of Ville Kylätasku, born in Finland, are composed of abstract-figurative fantasies and executed in predominantly intensely bright colors, transporting us into magical realms of imagination, mythology, dreams, storytelling, symbolism, and the daydreams of a young artist.

In a paradigmatic work, for instance, a childlike winged creature hovers lovingly between the expansive, orange-red and purple wings of a winged figure—half human, half bird. Is this a representation of Daedalus and Icarus, or the mythological depiction of the endless relationship between father and son, parents and children?

Ville Kylätasku's paintings navigate the fine line between reality and dream, individual and collective memory, the longings and demons of our consciousness and subconsciousness, as well as between the tangible and intangible aspects of our world.
