Ausstellung „Bister Lichter“ von Slava Seidel bei bestregarts
Figurative Painting and Drawing
Vernissage: Tuesday, May 7, 2013, 7:00 PM
Exhibition Duration: May 7 to July 12, 2013
Opening Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
From May 7 to July 12, curator Ewa Nowik presents current works by Russian painter Slava Seidel on the 14th floor of Galerie Bestregarts in Frankfurt am Main.
Seidel is known for her surreal and fantastical ink paintings. Additionally, the artist showcases colorful acrylic works. The term "Bister" used in the exhibition title refers to a type of ink made from so-called lampblack, ranging from yellowish and reddish to black-brown, and its use, alongside sepia ink, is central to her work.
Slava Seidel is a master of illusion. Inspired by her dreams, she transports us into a magical world of images that straddles fantasy and reality. She creates unreal scenes set against grand architectural backdrops that evoke feelings of dizziness, tension, and dynamism. The laws of logic and perspective are disregarded by Slava Seidel. “My paintings are hard to put into words; nonetheless, I try to tell stories that the viewer must continue.” Seidel's works are created spontaneously and without preliminary sketches—despite the demanding sepia technique that allows for no later corrections.
Even in distortion, the artist excels at depicting the most complex motifs and architectural forms. By adding water, she creates a color shift in the sepia ink and a hazy blending of the motifs—a recipe that gives her works their unmistakable, otherworldly character. Slava Seidel once again demonstrates her technical brilliance and exceptional talent for visual imagination in this exhibition.
