Tina Beifuss - Optic Echo

Tina Beifuss – Optic Echo
Galerie cubus-m is pleased to present new works by Tina
Beifuss.

Remaining true to her artistic project, in series Beifuss
explores the possibilities of the sculptural. In these works
the artist continues examining questions of materiality and
the quality of objects, of weight and weightlessness, of
motion and stillness. In this way, Beifuss questions the very
animism that may appear absurd, but has always been
inscribed in the sculptural.

Tina Beifuss reflects these themes in a very contemporary
and refreshingly ironic way.

As the exhibition title suggests, several of the works explore
seeing and addressing the relationship of image to
sculpture. In prints and aluminum reliefs Beifuss
consciously dissolves the boundaries of this conventional
dichotomy by interpreting images as objects or sculptural
forms.

Beifuss tests seeing when, in her nighttime photo scenes
and aluminum reliefs, she works with ambiguities by
allowing for an oscillation between representation,
ornamentality and chaotic structure. Here Beifuss plays
with the eye's inability to orient itself in the darkness of the
night. Upon reflection the irony of the title increasingly
becomes an irritation, which leads to a sense of horror,
were it not for the porcelain "crocheted" blankets, with their
reference to materiality and motif, providing a warmer
counterpoint to the forest or the installation reifying the
images, making them tangible again.
