As part of the “Labor Neukölln” series, Kunstverein Neukölln is hosted at Galerie im Saalbau, using this invitation for an exhibition project that resonates across three spaces.

The term melos, derived from Greek, describes the energy that bridges the gap between individual musical notes, bringing a melody to life. In the exhibition project Melos – Between Spaces, various distances are bridged: between places, art forms, and artistic positions as well as intentions. Visitors are invited to move between the three exhibition venues, capturing different atmospheres and tempos along the way. Spread across Galerie im Saalbau, kunstraum t27, and the display case at U-Bahnhof Karl-Marx-Straße, they encounter artistic works that explore aspects of rhythm, movement, sound, and time through various media. Each space is assigned its own speed, characterized by surprising analogies and synergies that contrast with their urban surroundings. The movement in the artworks is sometimes thematized or depicted, while other works are inherently kinetic: the movement within them often manifests in two forms: sound and temporal duration. Accordingly, many of the works are conceived as sound artworks, which can be slow, quiet, loud, or fast.

Curated by Rebekka Hofmann, Susann Kramer, Karl Menzen, and Dr. Martin Steffens.
