Robert Longo - Black and White

Galerie Fluegel-Roncak, specializing in contemporary art and Pop Art, will open the exhibition "Robert Longo - Black and White" on Friday, February 1, 2013, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The exhibition will run until March 15, 2013. For the first time in Germany, numerous original graphics and studies will be showcased.

Robert Longo, born in 1953 in Brooklyn/New York, is an American artist who gained fame primarily for his oversized black-and-white drawings.

He lives in New York with actress Barbara Sukowa.

His photorealistic charcoal drawings depict both the beauty and horrors of the world in massive formats. The series feature atomic mushrooms, tigers, fighter pilots, monstrous waves, sharks, and cathedrals. Original graphics of his works are rarely published.

He is particularly esteemed in Europe and Germany, having received the Goslarer Kaiserring in 2005.

In 2011, the Ulmer Kunsthalle (Weishaupt-Forum) showcased his works as part of a major exhibition, following a previous exhibition at the Hamburger Deichtorhallen.

His drawings regularly fetch record prices at international auctions. His motifs powerfully give form and expression to the fears and longings of 21st-century viewers, striking them with full force.

The works on display are being shown in Germany for the first time.

Galerie Fluegel-Roncak, located in Nuremberg, focuses on high-quality originals of Pop Art by artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Julian Opie, and Mel Ramos. Exhibitions take place every two months in the centrally located space on three floors at Obere Wörthstrasse. Participation in international fairs rounds out the program.

Opening hours:
Tue – Fri 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Sat 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, and by appointment.
