Kreisarbeiten I und II Marcia Raquel Székely
In the series Kreisarbeiten I and II, the circle takes center stage: the circle with its geometric properties, the circle as a recurring form in the universe, and the circle as a metaphor. In Marcia Raquel Székely's work, literal interpretation and formal exploration meet a contemplative and personal approach. Furthermore, Székely's pieces embody the element of temporality, emphasizing both the time of the creative process and the time of perception by the viewer.
The geometric elements of point, line, and circle often serve as starting points for Székely's works. In her frequently series-based creations, the artist investigates the properties of these elements, exploring them through a continuous engagement.
Repetition is a principle that runs through many of Székely's works. There is the repetition of the line within a single piece, as well as the repetition of a specific investigation within a series. Similar to the works of Eva Hesse and Agnes Martin from the 1960s, Székely's works characterized by repetition should not be understood in relation to a critique of the aura of the individual, but rather in relation to other versions of itself.
Seriality in her works does not relate to the images or materials of mass culture (as seen in minimalist approaches), but is much more an expression of individual exploration.
Despite the abstraction, a personal element emerges in Székely's work, reflecting a tangible connection between the artist and the artwork, as well as an engagement with questions of humanity.
