Von Guten Hirten und Planeten

Sometimes you have to wait or sit at a table with friends, and suddenly stories unfold. Right in front of you on the wall, in the railing, on the tabletop.

Dramas play out, unnoticed, faces gaze back at you, expectantly, planets sink into seas, and ships battle against the waves.

Rainer F. Steußloff observes his surroundings, for a long time and with intensity, discovering these stories. A photo report, not from the first, second, or third world, but right before us. In his first exhibition at Extro, he showcased images of the struggle against snowdrifts.

The survival of plants and herbs beneath a thick blanket of snow. Delicately crafted individual fates encased in heavy golden frames. Like an honor for surviving the dark season.

In this exhibition, two colors, fairy tales, and presentation forms are juxtaposed. On one side, in shades of green, the Good Shepherd defending his flock against the adversities of life. Not framed, but seemingly tossed aside, papers on wood, old, dirty, pinned with thumbtacks or stuck in sticky resin.

On the other side, planets submerged in the sea, giant wheels in a storm. Enlarged and displayed, with visitors' comments, they become unique pieces, personal experiences.
