PLEASE DON´T SMILE von Malte Wandel
You and your friends are warmly invited to the opening on Thursday, October 11, at 7 PM.
Welcome: Gunter Henn. The photographer Malte Wandel will be present.
The Munich-based photographer Malte Wandel lived in West Africa for a year in 2011. During his travels through Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Togo, he created an extensive portrait series featuring passersby, eccentric individuals, and even the Ghanaian surf team. This collection offers a snapshot of contemporary West African cities, exemplified by the 19-year-old Stanley, who earns his living as a Michael Jackson lookalike in Accra's nightlife, prompting a reevaluation of photographic genres and the relationship between the photographer and the subject.
As part of the Long Night of Munich Museums, there will be an artist talk with Malte Wandel and Anna Schneider in our gallery on October 20 at 9 PM.
