In Markus Liehrs new images there are sequences from Leipzig roads, Berlin courtyards, Spanish promenades, narrow attic ateliers and vast landscapes that look like snapshots of a road trip. Here, when a (phallic) Boeing rushes to paradise, an unspoiled beach, and there, a wild beauty sprawled in front of the voyeur, the painter is in his element – a contradictory combination, magnetically attracting the subconscious impressions. The soul snapshots want to be understood. They are no decor, despite of their gaudy colors. Immediate urban impressions mate with distant island exoticism, shamanic Eros with surreal native grasslands, cubist broken rows of houses with boat crossings, that seems to glue the acrylic in the slow motion of a shimmering midday heat.
