nervus rerum.

In the group exhibition nervus rerum., Galerie Thomas Crämer presents new works by Malte Brants, Sibylle Jazra, Steffen Kasperavicius, and Nicolas Manenti.

Nervus rerum - for the sake of the matter. This phrase has a complex history. In the Roman Republic, it referred to a noble ideal, one that could be agreed upon by any modern editorialist or esteemed speaker, whether it be peace, happiness, or tolerance. In late Roman times, nervus rerum took on a different meaning; the ideal shifted towards a focus on purpose, with money becoming the overarching significance of the phrase. The ideal thus becomes an end in itself, equating to a successful life in monetary terms. Is there an aesthetic of monetary enrichment, an aesthetic that redefines the concept of the ideal? The exhibiting artists in nervus rerum. approach this theme through their works, allowing viewers to engage in a creative process and become part of a dialogue.
