ALLEN JONES - 75 Years on Stage
Galerie Fluegel-Roncak, specializing in contemporary art and Pop Art, will open the exhibition
“ALLEN JONES – 75 Years on Stage” on Friday, November 16, 2012, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The exhibition will run until December 23, 2012. In addition to original graphics, numerous drawings, watercolors, paintings, and sculptures will be on display.
Allen Jones, born in 1937 in England, is one of the most renowned living artists of the Pop Art movement. He will celebrate his 75th birthday on September 1, 2012.
His friendship with David Hockney, with whom he studied at the Royal College of Art, laid the foundation for his subsequent career. He was involved in the exhibition “Young Contemporaries,” which helped propel English Pop Art to prominence in 1961.
His imagery ranges from gentle eroticism to aggressive, fetishistic representations. His more recent works explore themes of stage, dance, and sport, navigating the tension between figuration and abstraction. At the same time, he has created numerous large-scale sculptures for public spaces. Since 1981, he has been a member of the Royal Academy London and a Trustee of the British Museum. His works are exhibited in places such as Tate Britain. He participated in documenta III in Kassel in 1964 and was also represented as an artist in documenta IV in 1968. From 1993, he was featured in the overview exhibition “Pop Art” at the Royal Academy London and at Museum Ludwig in Cologne.
In 2012, the Kunsthalle Tübingen presented the largest retrospective of his work to date, and in May 2012, three of his sculptures achieved a record price of over three million euros at Sotheby’s in London.
Galerie Fluegel-Roncak, located in Nuremberg, focuses on high-quality originals of Pop Art and contemporary art. Exhibitions take place every two months in the centrally located space on Obere Wörthstrasse across three floors. International fair participations complement the program.
