Transition Space

Steffen Kasperavicius constructs relationships between fiction and reality, between the familiar and the unknown, between irritation and disappointment under various aspects. The mostly multimedial works refer to ideas of Fluxus, Minimal and Conceptual Art movements of the 1960s and 1970s, in which, firstly, the concept of a work stands over its realization, to another due, the work is defined by a reduced use of shapes, serialitiy as well as ludicrous humor.

Familiar icons, equipment and structures are manually, digitally manipulated and reinterpreted theoretically, committed to a context shift. The observers and participants are thus confronted with objects and video, with picture and sound, with installational intervention or software applications.

In the series "Arrays" Steffen Kasperavicius sculpturally processes serial made, already used europool pallets. By continuous application of always the same object, which allow different combinations and compilations, he not only shows his fascination for these in the first place functional materials but proofs their architectural quality in their locally staging.

The exhibition "Transition Space" is dominated by by a blade wheel like pallet installation, which crudely and threateningly surmounts other bridgelike objects and models. A video and soundwork supports the gloomy character of the basic presentation and virtually unhinges the gallery space, its gravity and dozens of wooden pallets.
