Kunstverein Neukölln is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition that came about through an exchange of artists between Barcelona and Berlin. This show, movimiento, is devoted entirely to the notion of drawing, but is, by no means limited to pen and ink on paper. The 13 artists in this exhibition also delved into the idea of interaction between artists and movement in space and how this, in this day and age, no longer depends on being in a specific place. These two ideas, and increased attention in the art world to works-on-paper which are no longer, by any means, considered to be mere sketches as was once the case, are now respected as a means unto themselves, i.e. as a way of prioritising subjectivity. The artist leaves marks behind that reflect hand-made processes. This has taken on new meaning in our digital age in which nearly everything can be and is reproduced. Indeed, the decision to realise a drawing is, in an age when so many artists work in a gamut of media, natural. Movement plays a crucial role here: the act of making a drawing also relays a sense of mobility, and a myriad of movements in more than one sense of the word, influencing how the art form continues to develop and be perceived.
