It can easily be said that the Michaela Helfrich Gallery and the artists associated with it are undergoing changes, yet their "art" of presenting their works remains constant. There is no standstill in the vast ether of existence, and we do not speak of the so-called common without reason. Even repetition is a temporal shift and thus a change. Generally, one must ask whether a fixed image reflects a change and, as an image for the purpose of recognition, opens a new facet of time. Are the perspective geometric images of Marcia Raquel Székely something new, or is Oliver Dehn's questioning realism a new craze? Should Gerard Waskievitz's semi-abstract, existential images be considered innovative, or are they merely the execution of existing or added painterly structures? What is clear is that nothing is certain, and we must always be prepared for surprises at exhibitions. It is also clear that everything and everyone changes, and we will likely find a new situation in the newly opened, spatially and dimensionally reduced gallery space. The move from the oversized spaces in the old Kindl-Brauerei Neukölln, where the gallery launched from 2009 until the end of 2011, to the smaller gallery of the same name today may be regrettable. However, we are dealing with a gallery where the artists from nationwide art academies and the gallery owner, with the same dedication and love for the craft, are willing to continue enriching the district of Berlin-Neukölln with high-quality exhibitions in painting/sculpture and to inspire art lovers. We are excited about the planned changes and look forward to the warm atmosphere for which the gallery is known, as well as to the transformed works of both new and established artists.
