Wolfgang Stifter - Rhythmen der Gegenwart
Wolfgang Stifter, born in 1946 in Ottensheim, Upper Austria, was artistically shaped from an early age in his father's studio, the glass artist Alfred Stifter. His successful development was significantly influenced by Max Melcher, under whom he studied from 1964 to 1970 at the renowned master school for graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
The exhibition features representative canvas works from the artist's most recent creative period. These compositions are filled with tension, sensitivity, and a sense of adventure. In each piece, graphic elements and painting find a brilliant balance. Wolfgang Stifter masterfully creates an almost "magical" harmony from the complex interplay of line and color, chaos and order, dynamism and tranquility, feeling and intellect. Each work is a powerful excerpt from a series, radiating strength while remaining visibly part of a larger whole.
These very personal excerpts are shaped by individual moods and experiences, sensitively resonating with both local and global contemporary circumstances. They are deeply rooted in a connection to nature, expressed through color, textures, layering, and breaks.
In their vibrancy and freshness, they invite every viewer to engage with the artist's traces, leading them on an individual journey that often extends far beyond the canvas. These are by no means simply beautiful works; their inherent defiance demands the viewer's attention with intrigue. However, those who embrace the sweet challenge will be richly rewarded with a profound experience that lingers long after.
