lucide
With works by Alice Baillaud, Juanu Fiddler, Nicole Wendel
Opening: Friday, February 24, 2012, 7:30 PM Exhibition duration: February 25 to March 25, 2012
Three artistic positions referencing dream-like processes converge at kunstraum t27. The exhibition title, Lucide, indicates that we are not dealing with unconscious sleep phases, but rather with lucid dreaming. In this variant, the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming, and the content can be consciously and willfully directed.
The three participating artists have each developed different methods to merge the associative nature of dreams with the guiding influence of art.
Alice Baillaud presents her Dream Boxes, which are luminous microcosms. The viewer can physically and emotionally enter these irrational-rational spaces and embark on a journey of discovery. Through sophisticated reflections and layers of images arranged in depth, some of which are transparent, a complex relational space unfolds that tells stories, evokes memories, and generates intense moods.
Juanu Fiddler showcases a series of screen prints that reference drawings and notes created after intense dream phases. The artist has developed a technique to engage associatively with memories and mental images, integrating them into her dense compositions. The interpretation and condensation of the drawn elements are left to the viewer.
Nicole Wendel employs an intuitively exploratory method for the open creation process of her large-scale drawings. Starting without a specific image idea, graphite traces are marked on the paper through a kind of improvisational dance using hands and feet. These traces are then condensed into spatial structures in a second drawing process, populated with figures and architectural details sourced from media images. By combining intuitive and cognitive approaches, a narrative associative space emerges that evokes dream imagery.
